Maharshi Sambamurty Residential School for the Physically Challenged Girls was started by Maharshi Sambamurthy Institute of Social and Development Studies (Regd), Kakinada, during the year 1993 as one of its projects.
The school is recognized by the Department of Education, Government of Andhra Pradesh, from the 1st to the 10th Class, with Telugu as the medium of instruction.
The School has its own spacious three storied building built over a 2,800 sq. yards vacant site taken on long lease. It has a well equipped science laboratory and is also provided with ample facilities for play, recreation and for other extra-curricular activities of the school girls.
Apart from orthopedically challenged girls, admission into the school is given to hearing and speech impaired (deaf and mute) girls also. The School has a capacity to provide the above free facilities to a total 150 girls.
The School has the benefit of committed services of a band of qualified and experienced teachers including those specially trained for teaching the deaf & mute girls.
All the girl students admitted into the School are provided with totally free ‘hostel, food and education’ facilities.
Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, provides regular annual grants to the school by way of reimbursement to an extent of about 50% of the actual recurring expenditure incurred at the school.
With the quite obvious intention of compelling the grant receiving institutions (like ours) to make better efforts to mobilize higher levels of financial support from the local community for their projects in the handicapped welfare sector, Government of India has recently decided to gradually reduce the extent of annual financial assistance being sanctioned for such projects.
The present situation which is characterized by ever increasing price levels, consequent increase in recurring expenditure at the school coupled with the certainty of gradual reduction in the levels of financial support from the Government over the years has been causing a considerable financial strain to the school.
In the above special back ground, the Managing Committee of our school earnestly solicits liberal financial support, under the following schemes, from philanthropic individuals, business concerns and industrial establishments for running the School.
Donors are requested to make their contribution only through crossed cheques or drafts drawn or purchased in favour of ‘Maharshi Sambamurthy Residential School for the physically challenged girls, Kakinada’.
All donations are exempt under section 80(G) of Income Tax Act.
